Tutorial : Crystal Doll #1
Level : Basic to intermediate

I know they're very cute. Haha. This doll is a great start for those who want to try beading a crystal doll. It needs few crystal and is not difficult to make.

This tutorial is quite a long one with heavy pictures, sorry.

The pattern is taken from Bead De Bead #8. I love Bead De Bead. They got many lovely designs and the patterns are very clear and easy to understand.

Equipment :
- Swarovski Bicone Crystal 4 mm. Jonquil or Aquamarine : 24 pieces.
- Swarovski Bicone Crystal 4 mm. Crystal or Light Azore : 5 pieces.
- Swarovski Bicone Crystal 4 mm. Topaz : 1 pieces.
- Swarovski Bicone Crystal 3 mm. Jonquil or Aquamarine : 7 pieces.
- Pearl 4 mm. : Black : 2 pieces.
- Acrylic round bead 8 mm. : Clear : 1 pieces. (It should be in clear color but I don't have it in stock so I used Lt. blue glass pearl bead.)
- Seed bead
- Nylon Thread No. 20

Tip :
- If you're confuse, just turn the doll as in the picture. You'll see where you have to put the thread.
- Follow the pattern. I highlight the crystals and paths of the thread.
- Making a doll requires putting the thread back into the same crystals, you should use small thread.
- Actually, the body of the doll is similar to a ball. That is to string crystals into many level of circles.

#1

Cut the nylon thread around 110 cm. String four crystals and join both ends at a crystal (red arrow).

#2

Pick up the right string and add three crystals. Join both strings at a crystal (red arrow).

#3

Put the left string inside the nearby crystal from the first ring (red arrow).

#4

The outside string adds two crystals. Join both strings at a black pearl (red arrow).

#5

Put the inside thread into a nearby crystal (red arrow).

#6

Now, add yellow crystal and clear crystal. Join both lines at a topaz crystal (red arrow).

#7

Put the inside thread into a nearby crystal (red arrow).

#8

The outside thread adds clear crystal and yellow crystal. Join both lines at a black pearl (red arrow).

#9

Pick up the inside thread and put it in the two nearby yellow crystals (red arrows).

#10

Pick up the outside thread, adds one crystal and join both threads at a crystal (red arrow).

#11

Pick up the inside thread and put it in a nearby crystal (red arrow).

#12

Now, with the outside thread, just adds two crystals and join both threads at a crystal (red arrow).

#13

Pick up the inside threads and put it in the next two crystals (red arrows).

#14

Add one crystal to the outside thread. Join both threads at a crystal (red arrow).

#15

Put the inside thread into the next two crystals (red arrows).

#16

Add one yellow crystal to the outside thread. Join both threads at a clear crystal (red arrow).

#17

Pick up the inside thread and put it in the clear crystals (red arrows).

#18

Add one clear crystal to the outside thread. Join both threads at a clear crystal (red arrow).

#19

Put the inside thread into the next three yellow crystals (red arrows).

#20

Join both lines at a yellow crystal (red arrow).

#21

Put a 8 mm. round bead inside the doll. Then, pick up any thread and put it in the four nearby crystals (red arrows) and into the yellow crystal (blue arrow). This is the doll base. Pull the threads tight, it will close the hole.

Now, we've done the body part! I hope you're still with me. Then, we continue ...

#22

We're going to do the small feet for this doll. Turn the doll up as in the picture. Pick up the left thread and add three seed beads (red arrow).

#23

Put the thread back into the first seed bead (red arrow) to form a triangle. Then, put the same thread into a nearby clear crystal (blue arrow).

#24

Still the same thread, adds three seed beads (red arrow).

#25

Put the thread into the first seed bead (red arrow) and put it in a nearby yellow crystal (blue arrow).

#26

Turn the doll down to the base again. Put the threads into the nearby yellow crystals (red arrows). Join both threads at a seed bead (blue arrow).

#27

Pick up the left thread and add three 3 mm. yellow crystals. Put the thread back into a seed bead (red arrow) and into a nearby crystal (blue arrow). This is the tail of the doll.

#28

Turn the doll to a side, we'll do his wings. Pick up the same thread in the previous step. Put it in the two nearby crystals (red arrow and blue arrow). If you're confuse, turn the doll exactly as in the picture and notice his black eye. The thread will go to the direction close to his eyes.

#29

Add 3 mm. crystal, 4 mm. crystal and 3 mm. crystal. Put the thread into the two crystals in previous step (red arrow and blue arrow).

#30

Do the same the other side. Start from the thread from his tail. Put the thread into the three adjacent crystals to the direction of the black eyes (red arrow, blue arrow and green arrow).

#31

Add 3 mm. crystal, 4 mm. crystal and 3 mm. crystal. Put the thread into the two crystals in previous step (red arrow and blue arrow).

String back and forth into the crystals to make it tight. Tie the threads together and keep the threads.

Phew .... it's done.

.....

This tutorial took me quite a long time to make, (and made a nice excuse for my lack of update, haha). I won't make doll tutorial often because it'll take many steps like this one. It's difficult for me to make and for you to follow as well.

Enjoy beading!
